NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY:

Alzheimer's Association

Every year the women of Sigma Kappa attend the Walk to End Alzheimer’s to raise money and spread awareness for their philanthropy, The Alzheimer’s Association. The event takes place every fall in local southwest Michigan cities. As volunteers, we help with both set up and tear down tasks, hand out hot beverages, face paint, and hand out memory flowers. One of our favorite parts is right before the event starts. People share their personal stories about how the Alzheimer’s disease has affected them and their loved ones. They blast music, warm up by dancing with a Zumba instructor, and get the walkers excited! Once the event starts we transition to being cheerleaders and line leaders. This event is special to us because not only does our chapter participate, but Sigma Kappa’s around the entire country participate together in these walks.

ABOUT SIGMA KAPPA:

The Gamma Beta chapter of Sigma Kappa prides itself on our member diversity, community involvement, and sisterly bond. Our open motto is “One Heart, One Way.” At Sigma Kappa, we have four values: friendship, loyalty, service, and personal growth. In addition to our values, we also have five philanthropies: the Sigma Kappa Foundation, Inherit the Earth, Gerontology, Maine Sea Coast Mission, and the Alzheimer’s Association. We hope you enjoyed learning more about Sigma Kappa!
